Welcome
Barrytown is a small town in the West Coast region of New Zealand's South Island. It sits on State Highway 6 and is 21 km north of Runanga. Punakaiki is 16 km further north. Barrytown is home to the one and only Barrytown Settlers Hall, the only community facility between Runanga and Charleston. It is run by a committee of local residents for the benefit of the community being used for a multitude of events; dances, concerts, school events, meetings, weddings, funerals, birthdays, and other community special events.
Built in 1929, the Barrytown Settlers Hall is a well-known music venue and has been hosting gigs since 1972.
RNZ ran an interview on some of the locals and although some things have changed - there is a lot of history held in the interview.
