The Grave Concerns are a four-piece, indie rock combo, from Heathcote Valley. Guitarist Django O'Reilly describes the music as "a mash up of Flying Nun, The Ruttles and Play School".
Originally billed as 'Polite Mike and the Grave Concerns' they debuted at a Friday the 13th gig, where they parted company with Polite Mike, who hasn't been seen since.
The Crave Concerns original songs are definitely off the beaten track, taking on such lofty themes as 'parking up in Gore' (the town alright), Sea Monkeys - (are they real?), a surf number called 'Punakaiki!' and the slightly esoteric "Augmented Unreality". There's a few covers too, including Brian Eno's 'Needle in the Camel's Eye', Look Blue Go Purple's 'Circumspect Penelope' and the little known band with the most pretentious name in rock - The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band's 'Smell of Incense'.
O'Reilly reckons "it's gonna be fun to play just over the hill from my old stamping ground, Quartzopolis. See you there!"

All the way from Voelas road Lyttleton, The Voelas Rollers owe their name to a very cheesy 80's LP cover, featuring tartan trousers. The joke has worn thin, but the lads continue on their incredibly slow tour of Banks Peninsular and beyond in search of a snappy new name. The set list digs deep into the great songwriters, with everything from Joni Mitchell, to Big Bill Broonzy and the Zombies."We've also stumbled upon the good old sing-along thing, which is a great way to warm up the vocal chords and the heart strings".

Martine Baanvinger, from the solo shows ‘Solitude’ and ‘Aperture’, brings another powerful, dynamic and passionate solo show to the stage. ‘Red Heavens’ portrays the true story of Angelina Moleta, an Italian pioneering immigrant on D'Urville Island, whose fate is intertwined with the forces of nature and her deep connection with Wetekia Ruruku Elkington, a high-born Māori woman. Growing up on the active volcanic island of Stromboli, she is betrothed to her cousin who brings her, in the year 1906, to the even more remote D'Urville Island in the Marlborough Sounds. Through hardship and an unlikely friendship, she grows into womanhood and motherhood. This bitter and beautiful tale is inspired by the book Angelina by New Zealand author Gerard Hindmarsh who wrote the book about his grandmother.
‘Red Heavens’ has successfully toured over 30 shows throughout New Zealand in 2024 with Arts on Tour. Now the show will tour one more time around the south island.
